Can assist those thinking of starting in business, new business start-ups and established businesses. Manufacturing Advisory Service (External website**)
This assists manufacturers with any issue relevant to productivity and efficiency. The Manufacturing Advisory Service provides a quick query service to deal with a wide range of specific technical problems. It also provides a free one-day manufacturing review when an industrial practitioner will carry out a hands-on assessment of your business and highlight areas of business opportunity.
A simple improvement action plan can be developed, free of charge, with further consultancy available at a subsidised rate. Advice is available covering a wide range of areas, such as lean manufacturing, ICT and Technology, waste management systems and environmental awareness, innovation. Provides support for engineering based, manufacturing and technology companies, in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire on behalf of the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber. For further information call 0845 601 1038.
East Midlands New Technology Initiative (External website**)
Provide match funded grants of up to £10,000 to small and medium sized businesses in high performance enginnering (particularly areospace and motorsport) to invest in state of the art technology and gain advanced technology skills through NTI approved courses. As part of the funding package, businesses commit to enrolling members of staff on NTI approved courses at local universities and colleges.
EEF East Midlands and Mid Anglia (External website**)
A membership based organisation, which offers a range of employment-related services for manufacturers, engineering and technology-based industries. The Engineering Employers' Federation East Midlands and Mid Angliaprovides assistance and help with employee relations, employment law, safety and environment advice, information and statistics, as well as bespoke training programmes.

Leadership & Management Training Grants (External website**)
Grants of between £250 and £1,000 are available to businesses with between 2 and 4,999 employees are available at a 50% rate for leadership and management training. Up to 12 individuals per business are eligible. Leader LDS 2008–2012
A new programme, entitled "Raising the Game - Enhancing rural productivity and improving quality of life in the Peak District through Sustainable Micro-Enterprise Development' will bring a range of grants to existing small & medium sized business and business start ups excluding the central wards of Glossop (Hadfield) and Buxton.
Grants from £3,500+ will be available with a focus on micro businesses (under 5 employees), home based businesses, businesses led by young people (under 30 years) or women; and community enterprises. There will also be separate strand for land based sector businesses. Match funding will be required normally at rate of 50%.
The scheme is not yet open to applications (proposed start date late April 2008), any interested parties should bookmark this webpage for further developments and details of how to apply which will be updated as soon as received.
