The Deputy Mayor 2007-2008

Councillor Robin Baldry

Cllr Robin Baldry, Deputy Mayor

Robin was born in Ipswich, Suffolk on 2nd March 1942. He left Secondary Modern School, Copleston Road in 1957. Upon leaving school Robin signed for Ipswich Town FC under manager Sir Alf Ramsey, leaving in 1961. He still played part-time professional football with Haverhill Town FC before going into management with various Suffolk clubs.

Leaving the football fraternity he joined the General Post Office Technical Staff, now British Telecom, before starting his own Travel Company and Sports Company.

Since the age of 15 he has always been involved in working in the political scene as a volunteer and as an agent, which saw him travel all over the country. Robin was a Borough Councillor in his hometown of Ipswich in 1982.

For many years Robin has played many roles in raising funds for charities, the majority of money being raised from golfing events, which Robin still plays as much as time allows.

Robin and Linda Baldry

A daughter Allison and two grandchildren still reside in Ipswich. His other daughter Tracey and eighteen year old granddaughter Lee-Anne lost their lives some ten years ago, the occasional journey home relives some happy memories.

Robin is presently a Governor at Buxton Community School, on the Committee of Whitehall Centre and Community Police, Buxton and a County Councillor for Derbyshire representing Buxton West, elected in 2004.

He is married to Linda, who is also a High Peak Borough Councillor. Linda, like Robin, enjoys football and worked as secretary at Coventry City and Watford FC.
