How can I vote?

Your name must be on the Electoral Register to be eligible to vote. The Register is compiled annually in October.

An Electoral Registration form is delivered to every property in the Borough in September, and you should complete and return this to ensure you are able to vote. Check whether you are eligible to vote.

If you want to register as a voter, you should complete and return one of the application forms below:

Online voter registration

You can register to vote online, using the High Peak Borough Council Voter Registration Service

Freephone: 0800 197 8648

When prompted, please enter BOTH parts of your security code, which can be found on your form.

Change of voter details

Have you moved home? Are you coming up to 18? Or are you just not on the register?

All you have to do is fill in a voter registration form. You have to sign your own form, someone else cannot do it for you.

You can download a copy of the voter registration application form here. (9KB) PDF document

If you need any more help, please call 0845 129 77 77 or 01298 28400 and ask for extension 2133.

When you send us your form, we will add you to our list of new applications. Any voter can then object to your name being added to the register. If this happens, we will write to you.

If your application is not objected to, we will change your details within two to six weeks of receiving your form.

We will also tell the electoral registration officer for your old address that you have moved, so that your name can be removed from that register. People who live at two homes (including students) are allowed to register at both. If you do not want to be removed from your other address, please explain why on the form.

There are special rules about names being added to the voters list during an election period. Because of these, you may not be able to vote at that election if you are added during this time.

If details of who lives in your house have changed, or you have recently moved, let us know by completing the Household Changes section.
