In January 2004 the activities of the Council were under scrutiny as part of the Government's Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA). This was an independent assessment of the overall performance of the Council by the Audit Commission.
There are 5 CPA categories - Poor, Weak, Fair, Good and Excellent. We are one of only 3 district councils across the whole of the East Midlands so far, to have been assessed 'excellent'. The benefits include certain government rules being relaxed, fewer government inspections and greater flexibility for the Council to spend money on local priorities.
The Audit Commission's report highlights the Council's strengths and areas for improvement. From their findings an 'Improvement Plan' will now be developed. The Council must keep the impetus on continuous improvement for all services.
