We have a number of policies and procedures that seek to ensure that we treat all residents equally, whilst recognising that we are a diverse community.

The Council's commitment to equalities and diversity includes working within the Equality Standard for Local Government, which sets out standards for all local authorities to work towards.
The Council completed a successful Peer Challenge against Level 3 of the Equality Standard in March 2009, and is now working towards the new Equality Framework for Local Government that was launched in April 2009. We are seen as "Achieving" under the new Framework and have been given recommendations to move towards "Excellent". The report on the Peer Challenge and the associated Action Plan are shown below:
