Britain in Bloom is a horticultural and environmental competition which is organised by the well-known Royal Horticultural Society (RHS). Judging is based on a set of criteria which highlight parks, private gardens, business involvement, school activity and community projects.
This year Buxton won First Place for the fourth year in a row in the East Midlands in Bloom competition as part of the Large Town category and was presented with the glass bowl trophy. In addition, Buxton won a Gold award for the first time in 15 years of competing. The committee were particularly delighted with this cherished accolade as we have been striving to achieve those extra points which lifted us above the Silver Gilt we have won three times.
Also this year the committee had an extra campaign to organise as the RHS had entered Buxton into the European competition as the only town to represent the UK.
Buxton won a Silver Award in this European competition. The judges praised the quality of life in Buxton, the cleanliness of its streets and in particular, special praise was given for the beautiful Pavilion Gardens.
The Chair of Buxton in Bloom is stepping down this year and there is a need to find a replacement if the good work of promoting Buxton in the Bloom campaign is to continue.
