This year for the first time we are in the National Finals of Britain in Bloom.
Last year we won East Midlands in Bloom. Your support, in our bid to win Britain in Bloom, is extremely valuable.
Local businesses usually support the in Bloom Competition each year, with hanging baskets and displays on roundabouts throughout Buxton. The Get Floral Scheme enables shops and businesses to make the summer months blossom with colour.
Please get involved even more than in previous years. Your help can make a huge difference to our competition prospects this year. It’s so easy for you or your business to join in with the competition.
You can order your baskets with us - the cost of the basket includes the basket, flowers, hanging, maintenance and watering throughout the summer.
A £10,000 grant, from the Breathing Places Big Lottery Award, has provided the funding for Buxton in Bloom, and we have worked with Friends of Pavilion Gardens to buy tools, create new marginal beds, design and produce interpretation panels, plant bulbs, put up bird boxes and much more, to achieve our aim. The grant has enabled us to involve children, parents and visitors to the Gardens, in caring for your environment and to enhance your very own breathing place. It has helped to kick-start the Buxton in Bloom effort.
For people living in Buxton, this gardening year got a tough start, being wetter and colder than usual - but please don't let it put you off. Do get out there and get gardening.
You can plant your tubs and baskets outdoors now. Incorporate a water retaining gel and some controlled release fertilizer into the compost. When things start to flower, dead head regularly to produce a brighter display and water regularly.
