Slam differs from open microphone sessions in that it is designed for audience enjoyment. You'll hear heartfelt love sonnets, searing social satire, uproarious comedy routines and bittersweet confessional pieces. Everyone reads in round one – before the audience judges decide who will perform again.
So what's in it for the poet? – Winning requires some skill and a huge dose of luck. What is popular one month might not get the vote next time.

Entry is £2.50 per person for regular monthly* Poetry Slams.
(*During the Buxton Festival Fringe, the Poetry Slam will cost £4 – to try and recover the costs of registration for the fringe and the technical equipment required)
Performers should book in advance, as entry on the night cannot be guaranteed. The venue provides a licensed bar and coffee and tea facilities.
