The Council's parks and recreation grounds offer an opportunity for active and not so active pursuits.
A network of children's play areas and young people's sports facilities, as well as quiet landscaped areas for peaceful relaxation, help cater for everyone's needs.
High Peak Borough Council would like your comments on our Draft Tree Strategy (624KB)
. This deals with the care and maintenance of trees in the Borough and places emphasis on protecting the trees we have, promoting and practising good tree care and planting new trees. The strategy (624KB)
is in three parts – the policies set out the principles that the Council will follow, in caring for the trees under our ownership.
In a separate section, four good practice guidance notes provide more practical information and advice covering topics, such as pruning trees and protecting them while sites are being developed. It also sets out how the Council will reach decisions, when requests for works to trees are made and how risk from trees is managed. The final part of the strategy (624KB)
is an action plan, which outlines how the strategy will be implemented over the next five years.

Outdoor leisure opportunities abound. High Peak terrain offers strenuous walks on the high tops of Kinder Scout and Bleaklow, as well as less demanding ones, such as in the delightful Goyt and Hope Valleys.
Climbing crags in the area are rightly famous, and excellent hang-gliding and para-gliding areas offer thrill seekers plenty of opportunity.
Cycling, either along the Longdendale or Sett Valley Trails, is excellent for families, and mountain bikers can find many challenging routes in the surrounding hills.
Water sports are available at Torside, Errwood and Combs, and anglers will find many reservoirs and rivers on which to cast.
We have bowling greens in Glossop, Furness Vale, Tintwistle and Buxton and there are a number of private clubs keen to encourage new players. Village cricket throughout High Peak is particularly competitive and most have junior sections where tomorrow's star players are groomed. Six golf courses, all set in beautiful surroundings, will test golfers' ability to concentrate!
