Manor Park, Glossop

This is an extremely popular and well used park, and is situated to the eastern side of what is now the centre of Glossop, fringing onto the Conservation Area of Old Glossop. The park provides a range of facilities for both the local and wider community which include the following:

Car parking is available, signposted from the main A57 which runs through Glossop. The park is served by bus stops at The Commercial Inn on Manor Park Road and at Cornmill on the main A57.

Green Flag

The park was awarded the Green Flag in 2006, which it has successfully retained in 2007, 2008 and 2009. The award, which sets quality standards for parks and open spaces, is assessed an annual basis and Manor Park will be entered again this year.

Friends of Manor Park

The park benefits from a very active Friends group who have been working to support the park for the last 5 years. The Friends group are involved in a variety of activities including, organising and running events in the park, practical planting activities, particularly at the Sensory Garden, working with local schools to encourage educational opportunities in the park, and fundraising. The group, who meet on a monthly basis, are currently looking to secure funding to refurbish the tennis courts to provide a multi-sports area.

Manor Park Bowling Club

The Bowling Club are a committed group of bowlers who self manage both of the bowling greens. They recently secured external funding to make improvements to the greens including fencing, and to purchase equipment to further their young bowlers coaching programme.

Events in Manor Park

The Council’s Parks Section provides space in several of its Parks and Open Spaces for external organisations to put events. We can also offer advise on safety and other issues relating to an event.

Concessions

Both the shop in the Pavilion and the model railway are run as concessions on behalf of High Peak Borough Council. The train is operated during school holidays and at weekends (11am-4pm) weather permitting, between April and September.
