Play

High Peak Borough Council places great importance in providing a wide range of opportunities for play and development for ages 0-18. Equipped or unequipped play areas, sports courts and skateparks, are just some of the facilities that are incorporated into the design of areas for children and young people to encourage play and social interaction.

BIG Lottery Funding

As a result of the Play Strategy we have benefitted from BIG Lottery Funding to refurbish several play areas over a 3 year period. The following play areas have benefitted from new exciting equipment:

Brown Edge Road Play Area and Ashwood Park tennis court in Buxton are currently being refurbished, and are due to be completed at the end of April 2010. Work to improve the play facilities is also due to start at Needhams Recreation Ground in Chapel-en-le-Frith.

For the final year of the Lottery Funding refurbishments will take place at Batham Gate, Buxton; Castleton and Peak Forest.

Other Funding

Harpur Hill Play Area also received Playbuilder Funding from Derbyshire County Council, and Harehills Park in Glossop is to benefit from this fund this year.

Projects to install Multi-use Sports courts at Whitfield Recreation Ground and Simmondley were completed at the end of 2009.

Cote Heath Recreation Ground, Buxton

Work has begun to refurbish the existing sports court and provide an extension to the existing skate park. The success of this project has been due to the funding secured by the Cote Heath Users Group and it is hoped that the project will be completed by the end of May 2010.

Granby Road, Buxton

Work will shortly begin on Phase 1 of the Granby Road open space in Fairfield. This will be to provide exciting new play equipment for juniors and teenagers. This project has been realised due to the hard work and funding secured by the Fairfield Community Regeneration Projects Group.
