Glossop Sailing Club offers excellent sailing on Torside Reservoir, in the Longdendale Valley, with 160 acres of safe enclosed water, surrounded by attractive hills of the High Peak.

We benefit from prevailing south westerly winds blowing up the open valley and a large sailing area, more than one mile from end to end, and can offer challenging competition for experienced helms as well as a friendly and supportive environment for newcomers to the sport.

Club racing takes place on Sundays, from Easter through to December, and Wednesday evenings, from May to August. Our helms range from relative novices to European champions.
We sail Lasers and other high-performance single-hander dinghies, and both spinnaker and asymmetric two-person racing dinghies. We also have a number of windsurfing enthusiasts and leisure sailors with family boats, as well as kayaks and canoes.

Training courses are offered by Royal Yachting Association (RYA) qualified instructors, from beginner level to racing techniques.
The Club has a strong juniors group, who learn to enjoy sailing, under supervision, on Friday evenings in summer. Sailboards, Topper and Optimist dinghies are available to junior members, or the children of family members.
The clubhouse provides good changing rooms and catering facilities and a licensed bar. It occupies a fine location for relaxing and socialising after sailing.
We welcome you to visit and see Torside for yourself.

Sailing had been curtailed for two years, while the dam at Torside Reservoir was being repaired. Since then, Glossop Sailing Club has resumed club activities to its previous momentum, with a full sailing and social programme as before, and the club is looking to attract new members.
