The Active in the Community programme is designed to bring sport and recreation opportunities to where people are, in their communities. During school term time Active in the Community coaches are busy in after school sports clubs throughout the Borough leading sessions in a wide variety of activities from Tag Rugby to Table Tennis, Aerobics to Athletics and some mixed activity sessions where children can experience a number of different sports.
The Active in the Community programme also works to make sport and physical activity more accessible to groups for whom opportunities to take part may be more restricted perhaps because they live in an isolated rural area or because they are disabled or elderly. Activities run throughout the year in a number of community venues such as community centres, day care centres, sheltered accommodation or residential homes and include, for example, chair exercise, Boccia, aerobics and short mat bowls.
The opportunities outlined above are available on request to teachers, care workers, support workers, parents, after school club co-ordinators, community groups and anyone who can identify a need and a venue. We can also offer support to set up groups and identify sources of funding.
The cost is dependant on the activities requested because of the specialist nature and skills required.
Prices range from £9.00 - £20.00 per hour.
