St Philip Howard Catholic School became a Designated Specialist Sports College in September 2005. The status has allowed the school to make developments in Physical Education, across the curriculum and in community sport.
The school has a new building dedicated to community sport and has refurbished existing school facilities.
This includes a fitness suite, accessible community changing facilities, sports classroom available for hire, as well as the existing gym, hall and tennis courts. These facilities are open for hire to local sports clubs and there are a variety of activities available at the school in the evenings and weekends for residents of the Glossopdale community.
Mad 4 Sport sessions are a partnership between the High Peak School Sport Partnership (Glossop schools) and St Philip Howard Catholic Sports College.
The theme of the sessions is to provide the opportunity to experience several sports while having fun. The sessions will be led by qualified and experienced coaches, and are open to children of all abilities.
The sessions run as follows:

|---|---|
| Venue: | St Philip Howard Catholic Sports College |
| Cost: | £3 per session |
| Age Group: | 5 to 8 years, 9.30am–11am |

The Table Tennis Centre of Excellence started in July 2006, as a partnership between the Glossop and District Table Tennis League and St Philip Howard Catholic Sports College. The sessions are open to players of all abilities, are led by qualified coaches and supported by several volunteers, all of whom have been checked by the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB).
We now have three fitness classes to support the existing fitness suite and range of sports activities already on offer. All classes are for adults, who wish to increase their fitness levels, support an existing exercise programme, or even kick start that exercise plan you have been putting off for ages. The sessions are pitched at a level where, no matter what your ability, you can work at your own pace and get a good overall workout.

Judo training serves as a good cardiovascular workout, which improves stamina, general health and overall fitness. The Glossop Judo Club (External website**) is friendly and family orientated, and caters for beginners to experienced players, male and female, from five-year-olds for juniors to above age 16 for seniors.
The Spirit Shockers Cheerleaders (External website**) was founded in 2002, originally for for teenage girls, by Hannah Jones. However, after a demand, she started Pee Wee (6-10years), Junior (10-14years) and Senior (15+years) classes. The three squads come together every week to train, improve fitness and flexibility, make friends and have fun.
