Community leaders have launched a search for High Peak’s sporting heroes and the unsung backroom workers who help them along the road to glory.
The net was cast this week by the Borough Council and High Peak Community Sports Network, which are inviting nominations in 9 categories for their 2011 Sports Awards.
The eagerly-awaited annual event celebrates the success of people involved in sport at all levels, and winners will be short listed for the prestigious Derbyshire Sports Awards.
The High Peak awards are open to anyone living in the borough or attending clubs or schools in the area. People can be nominated for more than one award, and self nominations are also accepted.
Anthony McKeown, Executive Councillor for Community Services, said: “We’re looking for nominations of talented sportspeople, coaches and volunteers plus stalwarts who’ve been involved in sport for years or have helped make their workplace active and healthy.
If you know someone who’s achieved great things in sport, then now’s the time to tell us about them".
"Sport plays a vital role in promoting healthy lifestyles, bringing communities together and fostering teamwork. Now, the public can play a major part in celebrating the achievements of those who keep sport alive and well in the High Peak”, he stressed.
Nomination forms can be obtained by calling sports development officer Chris Nightingale on 0845 129 7777 ext. 2210 or by sending an e-mail to chris.nightingale@highpeak.gov.uk. Alternatively, visit www.derbyshiresport.co.uk/sportsawards. (External website**)
