High Peak Walks for Health is a highly popular programme of guided walks around the High Peak area. The walks are graded according to accessibility, and range from easy through to challenging, and include wheel and walk routes for those in wheelchairs and buggies. The volunteer guides are trained by the Countryside Agency.
There were more than a hundred organised walks, each year, with a magnificent total of 2,545 individual attendances. The walks took place in many scenic locations, including Buxton, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Chinley, Edale, Fernilee, Glossop, Hayfield and New Mills.
There's a new programme of led walks in the High Peak, including Glossop, New Mills, Hope Valley, Whaley Bridge, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Hayfield and Buxton.
All our walks are led by Rangers from Derbyshire Countryside Service, Peak District National Park, the National Trust or by our volunteer walk leaders, who have been trained by the Countryside Agency. Most walks are circular, starting and finishing at the same point. Some walks are linear walks and finish at a different point. You then have the option of arranging a lift back from the finishing point, getting back on public transport, or walking back if you would like more of a challenge.
There are three levels of walks:
