Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS)

Dealing with environmental issues efficiently

The Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS)

The Council has adopted the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) to help co-ordinate the way that we deal with environmental issues. Between July 2010 and July 2011 the Council is developing a single environmental management system with Staffordshire Moorlands. During this period we will be removed from the EMAS Register.

EMAS is a voluntary scheme, developed to help any organisation manage their environmental issues. EMAS is recognised throughout Europe and incorporates the International Standard ISO:14001.

We recycle waste, save energy and water, buy green and try to reduce our transport impacts, like many other organisations. However, working with EMAS means we can quantify our environmental impacts and set objectives to reduce the most significant of these.
