Reports of flooding on highways or road gullies are dealt with by Environmental Services or by Derbyshire County Council depending on the location.
Flooding caused by water running off a public highway will normally be dealt with by Derbyshire County Council.
In cases of major 'flash flooding' we work jointly with Derbyshire County Council and all other agencies involved.
We have issued the following general advice to High Peak residents:
A number of agencies have provided flooding advice leaflets. The Council cannot be held responsible for the contents of any advice leaflet that has been produced externally. These booklets can all be downloaded below:
If you need further advice or guidance, please get in touch with the Environmental Health Service on 0845 129 77 77 or 01298 28400.
There is also further advice and guidance on flooding on the Derbyshire County Council website (External website**).
The Environment Agency has identified a small number of critical, ordinary watercourses, which have the potential to put large numbers of people and property at risk from flooding. Contact the Environment Agency for information relating to the risk of flooding near your property. If your property is at risk of flooding, from a watercourse, you can subscribe to the Environment Agency's automated notification system. Contact the Environment Agency for more information on this, or download their booklets:
The Environment Agency's online flood warning service (External website**) shows the real time current flood warning situation throughout England and Wales. It is automatically updated every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
For emergency advice on flooding in your area contact the Environment Agency Floodline on 0845 988 11 88.
See if your home is near a flood risk area with the Environment Agency's Floodplain Maps. (External website**)
We are under no obligation to provide sandbags. However, one of our drainage officers will be able to give advice. We are not responsible for protecting your property from damage, this falls with you. Suitable arrangements should be made in advance if the property is vulnerable, such as insurance cover and flood defence precautions.
Derbyshire County Council will deliver sandbags to premises that are flooding or are at imminent risk of flooding where the water is coming from the public highway. We have a very limited supplies of sandbags, which will be used to augment County Council distribution. In the case of flooding being caused by a main sewer flooding the Utility Company should respond.
The County Council will supply full bags if there is imminent risk of flooding from the highway and may send empty bags if your property is at risk. Customers may also choose to purchase sandbags from local builders merchants but we will not refund the costs incurred.
