The Environmental Health Service are regularly contacted by the public and the police about noise nuisance from domestic alarms that ring incessantly, or on regular occasions.
In many cases, we find that the alarm has been triggered accidentally. When this happens and you are out, you risk annoying your neighbours and paying the price if the alarm has to be silenced by the Environmental Health Officer.
The following measures will help to ensure that your alarm only goes off when it should:
Even if you follow the above advice, your alarm could still be triggered by a fault, or accidentally by a pet. It is important, therefore, to register a keyholder with the Council (preferably two, as then there is more chance of contacting someone in the event of a problem) who can be contacted to switch off the alarm if you are away. Derbyshire Police no longer keep any keyholder data or records, so you should register with the Council even if you have previously registered keyholders with your local Police station.
The information you provide will be treated as confidential, and will be covered by the Data Protection Act for your security.
