We have a legal duty to control the pests that carry disease, contaminate food or cause a great deal of damage. We provide advice and treatment services covering a range of domestic pests, such as rats, mice, fleas, wasps and other insects.
This is a job best done by experts - our staff are fully trained to get rid of the pests, and also to do a complete survey to stop them coming back.
The type of treatment involved will depend on the type of pest and the location to be treated. Our operative will make a thorough survey to establish the nature and extent of the problem and may also leave test baits to get a clearer picture of what needs to be done.
A treatment programme will then be prepared and discussed with you, taking particular account of the need to ensure the safety of children and pets. We will provide you with written information on any poisons used and provide emergency contact information should you have any health or safety concerns.
Domestic premises: A fee of £48 per hour is charged for pest treatments, excluding rats - which is free of charge.
Commercial premises: The fee is £90.
Minimum charge per treatment: For means tested benefits* (recipients of housing or council tax benefit) and Gold Card holders - £24.
High Peak Borough Council will treat for pests with an appropriate "professional" grade pesticide. These contain different active ingredients, in most cases, to commercially available domestic pesticides.
There are safety warnings on the rear of the advice sheet, which you should keep for future reference, once the pest control officer has concluded his/her visit.
Pesticides are poisonous and you should ensure that any pesticides we leave in your property are not tampered with, and that animals are kept away from the treated area. The Pest Control Officer will advise accordingly. On rare occasions with Insect treatments, it may be necessary for you to vacate a room, part of a premises or a whole premises for a period of time after the treatment. In this unlikely event, the Pest Control Officer will advise you of the situation before and after the treatment has taken place.
The Council will not accept liability for injury or ill health, resulting from failures to follow this advice.
