
Housing and Council Tax Benefit offers anyone on a low-income, help towards paying their Rent and/or Council Tax. Many people, particularly pensioners, are unaware that they are entitled to this help.
Housing and Council Tax Benefit are means tested benefits however two important changes are about to be made.
Child Benefit will be disregarded in calculating income for Housing and Council Tax Benefit.
Capital of up to £10,000 will be disregarded for Pension Credit and pensioner-related Housing and Council Tax Benefit.
If you are already in receipt of Housing and/or Council Tax benefit your claim will automatically be reassessed by the Benefits Section. High Peak Borough Council will work out if someone qualifies for help, taking into account his or her individual circumstances. This will include their age, income and whether they live alone.
