Benefits

Council Tax Benefit

You can claim if you receive a council tax bill for the property you live in, and the bill is in your name or joint names with someone else.

Housing and Council Tax benefit can help you pay your rent and council tax. The amount of benefit you are entitled to depends on your income, your circumstances and the amount of your rent and council tax.

You will not qualify if your savings are over £16,000, unless you are receiving Guarantee Pension Credit.

Second Adult Rebate

You can claim if you receive a council tax bill in your name for the property you live in but you are unable to claim Single Person Discount because another adult lives with you, who is not your partner. Single Person Discount is a 25% reduction in council tax given to single people who live alone. We will not need to know your income or savings but, to qualify for this benefit, the second adult in your property must have a total income lower than £210 a week, or be in receipt of Guarantee Credit, Income Support or income based Jobseekers allowance.

If you are not receiving one of these benefits already, and either want more information or to claim, please apply immediately, as we can only give benefit for a past period in special circumstances.

The Benefit Section may be contacted on 0845 129 77 77 or 01298 28400.

The Benefits Section aims to deal with all claims within two weeks.
