Details of the various methods of payment are shown on the reverse of the Council Tax bill. However, the Council's preferred method of payment is by direct debit.
Paying by direct debit helps us keep the council tax down and improves our services. Direct debit is the least expensive way we can collect your payments. Paying by direct debit helps us to keep costs under control and savings are passed on to you in the form of better services. Approximately 68% of our local residents pay using this method.
You have a choice of when you pay. The standard 10 monthly instalments are due on the 1st of the month (April-January inclusive), but with direct debit you can pay on the 1st, 15th or 25th of the month, whichever suits you best.
Your council tax is due in monthly instalments. Please note that if you pay by monthly instalments you must make all payments on or before the due date, otherwise you may need to pay the full bill.
Paying by direct debit offers all the following advantages:
You can set up a direct debit Instruction over the phone, by ringing 0845 129 4858. Make sure you have your bank details handy. You will need to be the bank account holder, and be able to authorise the instruction yourself. If you are a joint signatory, you can download a mandate so that you can both sign up.
Did you know that for every 1,000 local residents who pay their council tax by direct debit, the Council saves £5,000. So why not switch now and help keep council tax low!
