We, in partnership with the University of Derby, operate a voluntary Accreditation Scheme for landlords who wish to rent property to students. Since July 2006, shared student houses have come under the Houses in Multiple Occupation (HIMO) definition. Properties that are accredited to the HIMO standards and the University’s requirements will be able to advertise their properties to prospective students though the University's website.
Prospective student landlords will, in the first instance, need to obtain an Application Pack from the University of Derby Accommodation Officer by emailing J.Mone@derby.ac.uk.
If you wish to discuss the Scheme informally, please contact Mike Towers, the Environmental Health Officer for Private Sector Housing, on 0845 129 77 77 or 01298 28400 extension 4621, or email customer-services@highpeak.gov.uk.

If you are an existing Accredited Landlord under the Scheme, please contact Mike Towers in the Environmental Health Service to discuss transfer into the HIMO Licensing Scheme. You can telephone 0845 129 7777 or 01298 28400 extension 4621, or email customer-services@highpeak.gov.uk.
If you are a student attending University for the first time, or an existing student looking for accommodation in the private sector, you may find the guidance in the Government's Guide to Student Accommodation (External website**) helpful in choosing a property to rent and understanding your rights as a private sector tenant.
