  1. Can I have a bin with a lid that locks?
    We can provide locks for 660 & 1100 ltr bins. These are available at a cost of £40.36 per bin.
  2. I need a one off collection of my trade waste as well as my normal collection, is this possible?
    In most cases this will be possible following a visit from our Waste Supervisor. Please be aware that there will be an additional charge dependant upon the amount that needs to be collected. Please call 01298 28400
  3. I own holiday cottages, do I have to pay for the rubbish collection?
    Holiday cottages are classed as a business, therefore there is a charge. We can collect for the period in which the property is in use.
  4. Can I get a larger container if I have underestimated the size I need?
    Yes, we are able to change your container on request. Please be aware that this may incur an additional cost depending upon the size required.
  5. How soon would you provide me with my waste containers?
    Delivery of containers is normally within 7 days. However collections will not commence until we have received a completed Trade Waste Agreement & a Duty of Care Document.
  6. I would like to recycle my refuse, can I join the recycling scheme?
    The scheme isnt available to businesses at the moment. However you may be able to recycle in the future. Im the meantime if you would like to recycle card & paper please contact Confidentiality Plus on 01298 27772.
  7. I require more than one collection of refuse per week?
    This will need to be referred to one of the Refuse Supervisors. Please telephone 01298 28400
  8. I dont know which box to tick on the duty of care as I have different types of rubbish and I dont know what size bin Ive got?
    Tick the box for the refuse that is your main type of rubbish/majority of the rubbish. You can only tick one box. The size of bin will be shown on your invoice. Please keep one copy & return the other copy to the Council.
  9. Do I have to fill in the Duty of Care Document?
    Yes, this is an annual legal requirement. It is an offence under the Environmental Protection Act & penalties can be range from financial penalties to imprisonment.
  10. I would like to pay my bill half yearly?
    Your account will still be classed as monthly but when you receive the payment confirmation letter you need to pay the 1st 5 instalments by 1 May and then the next 5 instalments by 1 October. Please note you will not recevice a further invoice in October, it is your responsibility to ensure that the second payment is made on time
  11. What are the payment options for using the High Peaks Trade Waste Collection Service?
    You can pay the amount in full within 28 days or you can pay monthly. If you take the monthly option we will confirm your payment amounts in writing
  12. Why has the bill increased?
    This years increase was a policy decision, but High Peaks Trade Waste Collection Service is still highly competitive compared with other service providers.
  13. Where should any documentation be sent to?
    All documentation should be sent to the Sundry Accounts Section, Town Hall, Market Place, Buxton SK17 6EL.
  14. What is special waste?
    This is waste that has been classified as hazardous and needs to be controlled at all stages including disposal. It can only be disposed of by a carrier who is specially licensed to do so. Examples of special waste are: asbestos, acids, oils, paint, car batteries, solvents etc.
  15. Where can oil be disposed of? Can I put it into my trade bin?
    No, oil cannot be put into bins. There are private companies that can arrange for the disposal of oil. Alternatively you could consider installing a small waste oil burner to heat your premises, remembering also to apply for the "small waste oil burner <0.4mw" licence.
  16. I have a home composter. Can I still use it?
    Yes, you can continue to put material in your home compost bin. Just use your green bin for food waste and when you produce excess garden waste. Fruit and vegetable peelings, tea bags and coffee grounds and shredded paper can all be home composted.
  17. How can I find out my collection day or date?
    You should have received a calendar with your collection dates when your new brown bin was delivered. If this has been misplaced, you check your collection day online or by calling Customer Services on 0845 129 7777.
  18. Are business premises included in the recycling scheme?
    Businesses are not currently included on the twin bin scheme and there will be no impact on their emptying frequency, as a result of the new services. Recycling for businesses is a service that the Council is investigating, but at the moment, there is no capacity to collect this waste on the existing vehicles.
  19. How can I comment on the Waste & Recycling Service?
    The Council is always grateful to receive comments on the services that we provide. If you wish to complain, please complete a "let us know" form. Alternatively, you can telephone Customer Services on 0845 129 77 77, and one of our advisors will be happy to take details of your complaint.
  20. I currently receive a bag collection. What do I need to do on the new scheme?
    Residents who currently have a bag collection, have the option of moving towards a wheeled bin collection. However not all properties are suitable for wheeled bins. In some circumstances, the sack collection will be kept and a special bio-degradable bag will be provided for the garden waste an and food waste. A 23l container is available for food waste also. All properties currently on sack collections will be issued with a hessian sack in August so that they can participate in the new recycling scheme. Until these are received residents can use their blue bag to present recyclable materials (plastics, tins, cardboard) and the kerbside box for glass only.
  21. I've moved into a new property - do I have to pay for three bins?
    No - there is no longer a charge for bins.
  22. My bin has gone missing, or it is damaged and needs repairing, what can I do?
    Please contact Customer Services on 0845 129 7777 and we will replace or repair your bin within 14 days.
  23. My box wasn’t collected - what can I do?
    If your box was missed, and was at the Highway by 7am as requested, we will return to collect it. Please note: the crews are still collecting until 5pm so please wait until after this time to report a missed box. You can report a missed collection online or by calling Customer Services on 0845 129 777
  24. Is there any support available for elderly or disabled residents?
    The Council offers an ‘assisted collection’ service for those unable to present there bins on collection day due to illness or mobility problems. This involves a member of the crew entering your premises to remove the bin from its place of storage and then returning it after emptying. Please call Customer Services on 0845 129 7777
  25. What should I put in my new brown bin?.
    Your new brown bin is to be used for plastic bottles tubs & trays, food tins & drinks cans, empty aerosols, newspapers magazins & junk mail, carboard pacakaging & boxes. For more information about the new recycling service please visit our brown bin web page.
