Planning policy

Significant changes have been made to the planning system. In an attempt to introduce a speedier and more flexible development plan system, Structure and Local Plans are being replaced by Local Development Frameworks (LDF). Local development frameworks are intended to streamline the local planning process and promote a proactive, positive approach to managing development.

Planning applications have to be decided in line with the relevant local planning authority's Development Plan - find out more here.

The High Peak Local Plan

To reflect the change to the planning system, the Council is now preparing a Local Plan as an alternative to the Core Strategy.

Adopted Local Plan

The High Peak Local Plan was adopted in March 2005 and is a key part of the development plan system.

Sustainable development

The Planning and Development Service is at the heart of our vision to improve the quality of life in the High Peak.

Neighbourhood planning

Neighbourhood planning is part of the new planning system introduced by the Localism Act 2011 and is led by the local community.
