Council policy on site renewables
High Peak Borough Council expects 10% of the predicted energy demand of major developments to be generated on site by renewable means. Maximising the energy efficiency of new buildings will mean that less investment in renewable energy will be needed, in order to meet the target.
The basis for setting an aspirational target is taken from the Supplement to Planning Policy Statement 1: Planning and Climate Change. This national planning policy guidance states that:
"Planning authorities should expect a proportion of the energy supply of new development to be secured from decentralised and renewable or low-carbon energy sources."
