Bottoms up for Great Peak District Fair!

WITH a choice of 17 cask ales from within the Peak District, real ale lovers will be able to sample three beers for the price of a pint during one of Buxton’s most eagerly anticipated annual events.

The thirst-quenching offer is one of the highlights of the fourth Buxton Beer Festival, being staged in the Pavilion Gardens on Saturday and Sunday, October 13 and 14 as part of the hugely popular Great Peak District Fair staged by High Peak Borough Council.

Complemented by live music, revellers in the beer tent will enjoy the likes of the Thornbridge, Howard Town and Wirksworth breweries to name a few. Organised by the borough council, this year’s beer festival will also see the launch of Buxton’s very own Real Ale Trail, which will showcase some of Buxton’s best watering holes.

But there is much more to the fair than fine ale as this year’s festival will also feature an autumn showcase in the Pavilion Arts Centre by 25 top-notch artists, designers and craftspeople from the Peak District Artisans.

In all, the fair will boast more than 100 stallholders and exhibitors selling products and produce crafted, handmade or hand-reared in the Peak District. The Octagon Hall will be packed to the rafters with stalls selling everything from food, fine art and furniture to ceramics, carvings and crafts.

The Promenade will host food and drink stalls plus live music and children’s attractions while the family-friendly Pavilion Café and mezzanine Art Café will be serving up freshly-sourced produce.

Godfrey Claff, executive councillor for regeneration, said: “The Great Peak District Fair and Buxton Beer Festival have become major events, attracting thousands of people from far and wide – and providing a major boost for our retail economy.

“I’ve no doubt that the addition of the Peak District Artisans will make the fair even more attractive, and I’m anticipating another record-breaking attendance.

“Our continued support for the Pavilion Gardens as a conference centre, exhibition hall and general attraction for day visitors adds significantly to increasing trade in the town, as does our organisation of one-off events such as this year’s highly successful Olympic Torch day in June”, he added.
