Get fit for free in the great outdoors!
FANCY working out with friends in the open air? Then head for Buxton’s Pavilion Gardens for a series of hour-long sessions using new outdoor gym equipment.
Run by qualified instructors, the workouts start on Tuesday (April 17) at 10am and will then continue each Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday, starting at 10am, 6pm and 10.30am respectively.
The free sessions are being funded by the Friends of Pavilion Gardens using money awarded by the Community Spaces grants programme run by Groundwork UK. Community Spaces also grant aided the Friends’ bid for the gym equipment.
The instructors are being provided by DC Leisure, which runs High Peak’s leisure centres and swimming pools for the Borough Council – owner of the Pavilion Gardens.
Anthony McKeown, executive councillor for community services, said: “With summer approaching and the Olympics drawing near, lots of people are feeling inspired to get into tip-top shape.
“That’s why we and our partners are confident that fitness fans will turn out in force to enjoy these free, open-air sessions with family and friends. These workouts underline our commitment and that of our partners to the promotion of healthy lifestyles”, he added.
Would-be participants should gather in the reception area of Buxton Swimming and Fitness Centre five minutes before the start of the session in question. There is no need to book in advance.
