Get fit for free this autumn!

THREE High Peak leisure venues are to throw open their doors for a string of free taster sessions.
The fun starts at Buxton Swimming and Fitness Centre on Saturday, September 22 before switching to New Mills Leisure Centre the following Wednesday and climaxing at Glossop Leisure Centre a week later.
Highlights of the keep-fit jamboree organised by DC Leisure for High Peak Borough Council include one-day gym passes valid from 10am to 4pm at all three venues. Fitness fans should report to reception for a free induction and access to lots of state-of-the-art equipment.
What is more, free personal training sessions will run every 30 minutes from 9am to 5pm while other activities across the three gyms will range from indoor cycling and sports massage to hot yoga and quick-fire Zumba.
Sessions lined up specifically for the Buxton pool include aqua circuits, jogging and Zumba plus free public swimming during various slots. What is more, the Buxton venue will host a fruit, vegetable and fresh food stand plus smoothie bar and raffle featuring prizes including free gym membership.
Not to be outdone, the New Mills centre is to offer free 15-minute private swimming tuition tasters with Swim Academy Assessment from 4pm to 6.30pm.
Open days aside, the New Mills venue is the starting point for the popular, annual Sett Valley Fun Run, taking place on Sunday, September 16 from 10.30am. Fancy dress is optional for this year’s fairy tale theme, and entry costs £2.50, with all proceeds going to New Mills Town Festival.
Runners can register on the day or by collecting a form from leisure centre reception. Participants can choose a five-mile return run to Hayfield or a three-mile route to Birch Vale and back. All entrants receive a medal plus refreshments. Under 12s must be accompanied by an adult.
Anthony McKeown, executive councillor for community services, said: “These open days offer a golden opportunity for people to discover the health benefits of regular exercise using superb equipment under the supervision of expert instructors.
“With enthusiasm for exercise running sky high following the Olympics and Paralympics, I’ve no doubt that people will be signing up in droves for the free sessions”, he foresaw.
