MANAGERS of a state-of-the-art leisure venue have unveiled details of a programme designed to get customers in tip-top shape by making a splash.

Run by DC Leisure for High Peak Borough Council, Buxton Swimming and Fitness Centre is about to launch a Swim4Health scheme featuring a range of calorie-burning, water-based activities.

Participants dive in with a free, 30-minute introductory appointment which includes:

  • One-to-one chat with a fitness instructor
  • Pinpointing of personal requirements
  • Details and times of aqua sessions
  • A Session Diary for the planning of aquatic activities
  • A free pass to an aqua session of choice to set swimmers on their way.

The initial session opens the door to a wealth of activities including swim4fitness, aqua jogging, aqua circuits, aqua fitness and aqua Zumba.

With Swim4Health appointments available at any time of the day, fitness fans can sign up by calling reception on (01298) 766142 or e-mailing enquiries@buxtonpool.co.uk.

Swimmers can surf too by visiting www.swim4health.co.uk and accessing lots of free resources including a progress chart for the recording of number of lengths, and tips on improving stroke technique.

The website also enables users to set up swim challenges with friends, enrol for additional programmes, and obtain advice on swimming for expectant mothers. There is a Kidzone for younger children, and pointers for athletes preparing for triathlons.

Anthony McKeown, executive councillor for community services, said: “Gone are the days when you were confined to doing endless lengths in our swimming pool – although you can still do that if you want.

“Swim4Health is all about broadening horizons and giving our customers more choice and fun to ensure that getting in shape is as easy as possible”, he explained.
