New Mills Leisure Centre

New Mills leisure centre

New Mills Leisure Centre is used by more than 240,000 customers a year and continues to provide safe and effective sports and recreation for the community into the 21st Century.

The centre originally started off as a site with a 25 metre pool, two squash courts, lounge/bar and solarium. Local people campaigned for years to have a pool built because the nearest, at the time, was Buxton Spa Pool. After years of fund-raising, the swimming pool was finally built in 1980 and became a regional winner in the Sports Council's Management Award Scheme in 1986.

In 1988, the Centre was extended with a sports hall and fitness suite to provide the only wet and dry facility in the High Peak. In November 2000, the Fitness Suite was relaunched as Peak Fitness – New Mills, after an extensive refurbishment, including state-of-the-art equipment and dedicated staffing.
