Active 4 Life

Active for life is aimed at individuals over the age of 50, who are interested in gentle exercise in order to maintain and improve their health. Active for life was developed in conjunction with High Peak Cultural Services to provide exercise for those over the age of 50. As an excellent rated local authority, we aim to provide and promote accessible leisure facilities for all, irrespective of age, giving residents of the High Peak the opportunity to improve their quality of lives.

Practical Benefits of Exercise:

Physical activity of any kind, no matter how little is a positve step to leading a healthier life. Statistics show that in England, only 32 per cent of men and 21 percent of women aged 50-64 years endevour to do 30 minutes of exercise most days. Census 2004 states that we are living in a society with an increasing ageing population. Therefore it is generally acepted that in order to maintain health in the later years, that some form of physical activity is required, The Department of Health, (2000) recognises the need to reduce Coronary Heart Disease and Stroke levels in those aged 65 and over. A paper called Our Healthier Nation; Saving Lives was produced to combat this. This paper has an action plan to reduce Coronary Heart Disease and strokes by 15% before the year 2010. Leisure Services and exercise anitiatives play a vital role in achiving this target.
