30 Minutes is all it takes

Our January health and fitness promotion fitness was a great success at Glossop Leisure Centre and Pool, and New Mills Leisure Centre.

More than 140 people signed up to take part, tasked with completing three 30 minutes sessions of moderate activity over a two-month period. Two of these sessions had to be facility based, either in the gym or the pool, while the other could be completed away from the centres, and included gardening, hiking, cycling or playing tennis.

People can see significant and life changing benefits by completing just three 30-minute sessions of moderate activity per week.

To motivate people to complete the challenge, we offered a range of prizes, along with continued support and advice from our fitness instructors.

The Winners

After much effort and enjoyment, 80 people managed to complete the challenge. We have conducted the prize draw and can announce the lucky recipients of the prizes. They include:

What our Customers say

Here are what some of our customers have to say about the health promotion event...

Andrew Curphey

"I joined the leisure centre before Christmas. I am pleased to say that I have managed to pass my Army fitness test (with surprising ease), so thanks for your help in putting together a training programme.

"I have adapted, upped the parameters and changed the programme a bit, as I have gone on and found what suits me and what does not. It also varies according to how much time I have. I usually try and put in at least 45 minutes of cardiovascular and I am doing more outside running. I am going fairly often, usually three times a week, although it can vary a bit, and I have been able to do other stuff when I have been away. I aim to progress and probably do more upper body stuff, as well.

"My weight has decreased from 85 Kg to 78 Kg. This was not a direct aim, but welcome. Anyway, thanks for your help. I will almost certainly consult you in the near future to modify and progress with what I am doing."

"My wife and I have been coming to Glossop Leisure Centre two or three times a week, for the last six months. We have found our fitness level and general health has vastly improved during this time.

"The staff are always pleasant and extremely helpful in showing how to use the different equipment. We are also members of Glossop Ramblers, which meet at the Centre every Tuesday.

"It was a nice surprise to win an iPod, which will come in very handy."

Tracey Pitceathly

"I found the January to March challenge really useful and helpful. It was straightforward and not particularly taxing, but it still helped to motivate me, especially on Sunday afternoons, when I realised that I’d only done two sessions in the week and needed to force myself to the gym, or out for as run, to stand a chance of winning an iPod.

"Personally, I enjoy all the challenges and enjoy any scheme or structure, which helps keep me focused."
