Chapel-en-le-Frith Regeneration Partnership

Actions for 2008-2011

Working with the Parish Council and local property owners, we are aiming to improve the setts on Terrace Road including removing the concrete, tarmac and granite patches and flags which are inappropriate at the heart of the old town's conservation area. Works will include the area behind Natwest Bank and adjacent to Hardcastle Mews. The Parish Council will be the lead body in delivering the work, and working together we have secured external funding to pay for the project.

In addition to the physical works on Terrace Road, two other smaller pavement improvements to Church Brow are also being undertaken to improve the physical appearance of the conservation area.

Other actions include the continued support of the May Day event, and brightening of the town centre with hanging baskets and barrier baskets on the market place.

Achievements

In 2007, new summer flowering baskets on the railings around the Market Place were installed; new tourist information panels were installed at car parks, and tourist information racks were fitted within the town hall; and a mini guide to shops and services in Chapel-en-le-Frith was produced (available from town hall, Tourist information and other local outlets).

In 2008, we have already introduced 18 new street name plates - to help people orientate themselves and find postal addresses.

Background

The Chapel-en-le-Frith Regeneration Partnership was set up in 1996 to help conserve the historic town centre and regenerate the town as "a thriving, prosperous, safe and attractive market town with jobs, homes and facilities for all".

The partnership’s work has included funding physical enhancements - often supported by Conservation grants - as well as initiatives to support the town’s residents and retailers.

Key projects have included: King's Arm pub forecourt in Chapel-en-le-Frith
