Life Events - Births, Marriages and Deaths

Listed below are some links to various services either provided by us or by Derbyshire County Council all about registering a birth or a death, or about civil marriage and partnership ceremonies. There are also some further links that may prove useful should you need help or advice.

Births

Registering the birth of your new baby must, by law, be done within six weeks of its occurrence. You can do this at the Register Office (external website**) in the district where the birth occurred.

You need to tell the DVLA if you change your name or address too so they can update your driving licence and vehicle registration, if necessary.

Death

Registering a death must, by law, be carried out within five days of its occurrence unless a Registrar says that this period may be extended. You can do this at the Register Office (external website**) in the district where the death occurred.

You may need to let us know about a death in the family so that we can update our council tax records, electoral register or you may be eligible for benefits.
