Peak Forest

Peak Forest is a small village on the White Peak Plateau between Chapel-en-le-Frith and Tideswell. The village gets its name because it stood at the centre of the Royal Forest of the Peak which was not wooded in the modern sense of the word, but was a large hunting area.

The village is famous for Eldon Hole one of the traditional 'seven wonders of the peak' and is the biggest open pothole (245ft/75m deep) in the Peak District.

Freshfields Donkey Village is based at the edge of the village and is a unique charity not only rescuing and caring for donkeys but also use the donkeys to work with children with special needs. Open everday 12.00noon until 4.00pm. Peak Forest
