New litter recruit for the central area

Date: 03/07/2006

The clean team will have a new recruit to hit the streets of the central area this August.

Based in New Mills, the additional team member will ensure that the town centres of Chapel-en-le Frith, Hayfield, New Mills, and Whaley Bridge receive increased litter picking and sweeping. The towns will be tidied more frequently and problems resolved more speedily.

The extra street cleansing, coupled with the patrols of the litter enforcement officer, is expected to have a noticeable impact on the streets of the market towns, and will enable faster responses to service requests for the central area, made via the council's call centre.

Councillor Glynis Kirk, High Peak Borough Council's Executive Member for the Environment, said: "The new operative will provide frequent attention to the central area towns because they are most prone to litter. The introduction of this additional resource follows the success of the Buxton and Glossop clean teams, and supports our zero approach to litter in the High Peak."

Please remember that the fine is £50.00 for dropping litter dog fouling, graffiti, fly posting and fly tipping.
