Local artist appointed for Harehills work

Date: 11/07/2006

Local artist Jem Waygood of Eaton Waygood Associates in Stockport has been appointed to design signs and interpretation features for Harehills Park.

Jem, who has lived in Glossop for 21 years and has an intimate understanding of the town, will be working with the Mersey Basin Campaign, Glossop Vision and the local community to develop the new information features within Harehills and along Glossop Brook.

The project, costing £21,000, has been funded by the Local Heritage Initiative - a partnership between the Heritage Lottery Fund, Nationwide Building Society and the Countryside Agency.

The features will raise awareness of the rich industrial and natural heritage of Glossop and highlight the importance of Glossop Brook in the development of the town as it is today.

A number of community events are being organised throughout the summer to increase awareness and involvement in the project.

John Hart, Chair of the Glossop Vision Board, said: "We hope that this project will encourage the use of Harehills Park and the riverside walk through the town centre. Watch out for the events which are being organised throughout the summer that will invite residents to join in with the project."
