Feeding and weaning: expert advice for local mums and dads

Date: 10/07/2006

The Gamesley parent and toddler group will have a health visitor on hand this Friday 14 July to give advice to new parents on breast feeding, weaning and dental care.

The health visitor, who is a registered nurse with special training in the assessment of the health needs of individuals, families and the community, will also discuss any issues that mums, dads and carers might have.

The parent and toddler group is a social group for babies and young children, where the parent stays with their child. For parents it is a chance to talk with others about the joys and anxieties of bringing up children. The children can play and have a go on the bouncy castle.

The group meets every Friday between 10 am and midday at Gamesley Community Centre, and is open to parents and carers with children under 5. The cost is 50p per child. Tea and coffee are available for 50p and juice is 20p.

The health visitor will be on hand to give advice on Friday 14 July between 10.30 and 11.30 am.

Councillor John Pritchard, High Peak Borough Council's Executive Member for Community and Social Development, said: "The parent and toddler group provides an ideal opportunity to socialise with other families. Having the health visitor on hand to give advice is an added bonus. It is all about keeping the community healthy, and well-informed on health issues."
