High Peak Borough Council's total efficiency gains for 2005/06 have increased to £1.7 million following major reviews of the senior management and administration structures and the new opening hours of the call centre. This figure also includes savings achieved by High Peak Community Housing, which total over £520,000.
In July 2004, all local authorities were required to identify major savings in council budgets - the main purpose being to save money and make public services more efficient. By continuing to seek out more savings and better ways of working it was agreed that High Peak Borough Council could achieve its financial goal of low council tax increases whilst maintaining high quality services.
Since that date, the Council has been working hard to make efficiency gains. Besides the major staffing reviews other savings for 2005/06 have been achieved through:
