Hayfield and New Mills are the latest towns to benefit from High Peak Borough Council's 'Going Local' initiative, which forms part of the Area Forum programme covering all of High Peak Borough. Each Forum area has been allocated an improvement fund of £10,000 to be implemented over the summer months with a focus on 'Cleaner, Greener, Safer' themes.
Central Area Forum have awarded Hayfield Cricket Club £500 as a contribution towards improved security for the clubhouse so that it can continue to be used effectively as a community facility.
Bill Higginbottom, Committee member, from Hayfield Cricket Club said: "The clubhouse is used by a wide range of local groups including the Wednesday Club for older people, Fiddlesticks music group for young people and the Civic Trust. We have however suffered from some anti-social behaviour around the pavilion when it is closed so we will be installing a CCTV system to improve security and reduce nuisance caused to adjoining residents. The funding from the Council via the Central Area Forum will be of great benefit to us."
Central Area Forum will also be supporting 'Go for Colour' in New Mills with a contribution of £400 awarded to New Mills Town Council. This is a project to enhance the local environment by planting crocus in grass verges. The planting of over a thousand bulbs will take place later in the year and involve local people and schools. The bulbs will be planted on grass verges in and around housing estates throughout the town. This project is a partnership between New Mills Town Council, High Peak Borough Council and High Peak Community Housing.
Councillor Andrew Bingham, Chair of Central Area Forum said: "We are pleased to encourage the use of facilities like Hayfield Cricket Club pavilion by the whole community and we are also determined to help address issues of anti-social behaviour."
This project, together with the 'Go for Colour' project in New Mills were identified by parish and town councils as community based projects that would fit within the 'Going Local' initiative. This initiative forms part of the Area Forum programme covering all of High Peak Borough. Each Forum area has been allocated an improvement fund of £10,000 to be implemented over the summer months with a focus on 'Cleaner, Greener, Safer' themes.
