Councillor Andrew Bingham, High Peak Borough Council's Executive Member for Community and Social Development, popped down to Glossop pool last week to make sure that everyone knows about the council's free swimming offer to all children under 16.
The Borough Council's pools at Buxton, Glossop, and New Mills are offering free swimming up to Sunday 2 September, during public swimming sessions.
The benefits of exercise to children are well documented, and the Council wants to encourage young people to get into the habit of undertaking regular sports and activities.
The normal junior swim rate is £1.70, so families whose children swim regularly will make a massive saving.
Young people aged between 14 and 16, who have silver b_line2 cards, will be able to use their cards for half price bus and train fares when they travel to go swimming.
Councillor Bingham said: "I understand that attendances are good. This is great because the Council wants young people to take the opportunity to have fun and improve their swimming skills."

Young people who live in Derbyshire and are aged between 14 and 18 and in full-time education, are entitled to a free silver b_line2 card, which means they can get half price bus and train travel across the county and further afield.
