Free football coaching for young residents

As the Premiership kicks off, High Peak Borough Council are offering young people aged between 12 and 16 years, the chance to improve their football skills as part of the 'Going Local' programme in the Central Area.

The 'Going Local' Initiative forms part of the Area Forum programme covering all of High Peak Borough. Each Forum area has been allocated an improvement fund of £10,000 to be implemented over the summer months with a focus on 'Cleaner, Greener, Safer' themes.

Free half-day coaching sessions, given by level 3 coaches have been arranged at:

· New Mills on Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 August at Wirksmoor Road recreation ground from 1 pm to 3 pm;

· Whaley Bridge on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 August at Whaley Bridge Sports Pavilion from 1 pm to 3 pm;

· Chapel-en-le-Frith on Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29 August at Chapel Leisure Centre playing field or the all weather pitch from 1 pm to 3 pm; and

· Hayfield on Thursday 30 and Friday 31 August at Hayfield FC, Bank Vale Road, off Swallow Lane from 1 pm to 3 pm.

All of the sessions, which include coaching and a mini tournament, should be booked as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Please ring New Mills Leisure Centre on 01663 745424 or Chapel Leisure Centre on 01298 811733 to book a place.

Councillor Andrew Bingham, High Peak Borough Council's Executive Member for Social and Community Development, said: "This coaching programme not only improves the skills of young people in our area, but it also gets them together in a safe environment during the long summer break. The programme is in addition to the wide range of activities that High Peak Leisure Services are offering as part of their summer programme over the coming weeks."
