High Peak Borough Council's Executive has agreed to new concessionary parking arrangements for residents and businesses.
When the residents' concessionary permits are re-issued in April 2008, as well as giving residents free parking between 8am and 10am and 4pm and 6pm from Monday to Saturday, the permits will also allow free parking at any time on a Sunday in all car parks - except at the Spring Gardens centre and Wye Street in Buxton.
From April 2008, the concession available to the University of Derby on the top deck of the Pavilion Gardens car park in Buxton on weekdays during term time will be extended to other people at a flat rate charge of £130, and to businesses at a discounted rate of £110.
Car parking tickets will also be transferable between car parks to encourage shopping in different locations in our towns.
These concessions follow the Council's decision to give Christmas shoppers 2 hours free parking from 17 December until Christmas Eve.
The concessions only apply to the Council's car parks, and cannot be used in the controlled on-street parking areas such as the Crescent in Buxton.
Emily Thrane, Executive Member for Corporate Services, said: "We want to make it easier for residents to visit our town centres and encourage the High Peak economy; whilst at the same time, striking the right balance between charging local people and visitors for parking. I hope that the new concessions - available from next April - will benefit residents and the business community."
