Manufacturing Task Force - January meeting

Date: 09/01/2007

The first Manufacturing Task Force Forum of 2007 will take place on Wednesday, January 17, between 5.30pm and 7.30pm, at Federal Mogul in Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire.

The Task Force has taken on significant work to address local priorities and issues facing manufacturing and engineering businesses in the High Peak, since it was set up early last year.

The benefit of the Manufacturing Task Force is recognised by Graham Johnson, managing director of Buxton-based Uniscan Instruments, who said: "It plays a key role in the Council"s mission to create the environment and infrastructure that will allow companies like ours to grow, prosper and provide local jobs, while preserving the unique and sensitive nature of the High Peak.

"Belonging to the Task Force is giving us the opportunity to make our voice heard and to contribute to the strategic planning needed to promote a buoyant local economy."

At the January forum, the Task Force will focus specifically on skills and training provision. An open discussion with businesses will take place on the subject along with presentations from the University of Derby and Derbyshire Network of Training Providers.

Swizzels Matlow will provide a business insight into the benefits of the training programmes that the company has used.

Councillor Alan Wells, High Peak Borough Council"s Executive Member for Regeneration, said: "The Task Force continues to grow in strength and to address the issues affecting our local businesses. As more businesses engage with the Task Force, the more representative it has become. We would encourage any local companies to come along to this meeting and get involved."
