Make your child a Superstar at Buxton Pool

Date: 09/01/2007

Buxton Spa Pool is introducing Superstars - a multi-sports session for children of ages four to seven.

Superstars is a fun sport-based session, aimed at improving children's agility, coordination and balance.

The session is made up of a number of balance and agility exercises - such as hopping, zigzags and relays - and sport-based games, including running and jumping drills, parachute games, unihoc, relay races, throwing and catching, and mini-football.

This is part of High Peak Borough Council"s ongoing commitment to provide opportunities for children to get active and stay active.

The sessions started on Friday, January 5, 2007, and costs £1.50 per child.

There will be two sessions every Friday, one at 4pm to 4.45pm, the other at 4.45pm to 5.30pm.

Each session has to be booked in advance, as places are limited.

Councillor John Pritchard, Executive Member for Community and Social Development, said: "The overall aim of these new Superstars sessions is to provide an enjoyable exercise option for young children, so they can learn that sport is fun and, hopefully, develop a lifelong habit of exercising.

"An added bonus is that the session provides a very enjoyable way for young children to socialise and learn the values of teamwork and sportsmanship."
