A student from New Mills was fined £50, when she pleaded guilty to a littering offence, at Buxton Magistrates Court, on Friday, January 12, 2007.
Kelly Robinson, 18, of Ollersett Avenue, New Mills, dropped a drinks bottle on to Devonshire Road, in Buxton, on June 5, 2006, and failed to pick it up.
The council's environmental enforcement officer, who saw her commit the offence, issued her with a fixed penalty notice.
Robinson failed to pay the fixed penalty so she was prosecuted for the offence, under section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 (as amended).
High Peak Magistrates' Court ordered her to pay £100 towards the Council's costs, in addition to the £50 fine.
Councillor Glynis Kirk, High Peak Borough Council"s Executive Member for the Environment, said: "Last year, we carried out a litter education programme in Buxton, which included the Community School and the University of Derby, Buxton. The programme concluded in May 2006.
"Additionally, 1,000 leaflets were distributed at the Devonshire campus, warning about litter enforcement patrols.
"The council has a zero tolerance to litter. As a deterrent, our enforcement officer is making regular patrols across the borough and will issue fixed penalty notices to people who drop litter, fly-post, fly-tip or allow their dogs to foul in public places. Please help us to keep the High Peak"s streets clean and tidy."
