High Peak Borough Council provides high quality services that are improving impressively, an Audit Commission report has confirmed.
The Audit Commission report, published in December, builds upon the Council's "Excellent" rating, given by the Audit Commission in 2004, and confirms an impressive improvement and high levels of performance in the provision of our services.
Very positive results came from comparisons using performance indicators (PIs) in key service areas, such as planning, housing, street cleanliness and benefits.
The Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) analysis of service performance information compares High Peak Borough Council's previous years' achievements with the performance levels attained by all other councils in England.
The report shows:
There were six performance measures where the 2005-2006 result showed High Peak had dipped among the lower quarter of councils. Of these, three related to recycling and one to tenants' opportunities.
However, our improvements on the previous year's results show the Council to be on track to meet our 18 per cent recycling target for 2006-2007.
Councillor Mike Harrison, High Peak Borough Council's Executive Member for Performance Improvement, said: "Despite our continuing trend in improvements, the council is not complacent about performance, and we continue to monitor our results closely, setting clear improvement targets for all areas falling below expectation.
"We are on track to improve our recycling figures and we have plans in place to improve our performance in resolving homelessness."
He added: "Most importantly, the Audit Commission shows that our spending per resident is in the lowest six per cent of district councils, nationally. Therefore, we are providing high quality, improving services at low cost."
