High Peak Community Housing had to divert its repairs workforce to deal with emergency call-outs, after receiving more than 100 calls in 12 hours, about fallen trees and damage to roofs and fences, during the recent horrific gales and storms.
The calls, on Thursday, January 18, were evenly spread across the Borough, with 40 from Gamesley, 40 from the Buxton area and 35 from the central towns of New Mills, Chapel-en-le-Frith and Whaley Bridge.
Steve Harrington, Asset Manager for High Peak Community Housing, said: "We have had to divert our workforce from other jobs to respond to calls from tenants with roof and tree issues. We are asking our customers to bear with us, as more routine repairs have had to be put on the back-burner."
Roofs were particularly hard hit in the Combes and Calver areas of the Gamesley estate, Manor and Vaughan Roads in Whaley Bridge, and St James' Court in Harpur Hill. Tenants in three bungalows on Eyam Green, in Gamesley, were advised to vacate their homes, while a fallen tree was being removed.
The housing company has yet to establish how much it will cost to repair all the storm damage, but estimated this to be at least £15,000.
