Improvements for award-winning park

Date: 13/03/2007

Work has started in Howard Park as part of High Peak Borough Council"s programme of improvements to parks and open spaces

The work, due to finish at the end of March, includes the restoration of worn out path edges, repairs to drainage channels and modifications to park benches.

The improvements to paths and drainage follow comments from judges, who awarded Howard Park the prestigious Green Flag last year.

The work on the benches follows a survey carried out by Access Glossop, a local disability access group, on behalf of High Peak Borough Council. The modifications conform to their recommendation that some existing benches should enable wheelchair access next to them.

The work will enhance Howard Park features, without harming its overall character, and it is hoped that any public inconvenience caused during the improvement work will be kept to a minimum.

Councillor John Prtichard, High Peak Borough Council"s Executive Member for Community and Social Development, said: "These improvements should be seen as part of the continuous work in recent years to enrich Howard Park. I am sure that they will be welcomed by all users of the park."
